Standing with communities affected by wildfires

Chi Mino Ozhitoowin extends our deepest sympathy, prayers and support to the First Nations, communities, families and individuals affected by the wildfires across Northwestern Ontario.

To our neighbours, partners and relatives facing evacuation, displacement, loss and the uncertainty of rapidly changing conditions: please know that our thoughts are with you. We recognize the profound impact on Elders, children, youth, families and other community members who have had to leave their homes and territories for their safety.

Our name, Chi Mino Ozhitoowin, is Anishinaabemowin for everyone building (anything) in a real good way. During challenging times such as these, building in a good way means standing together with compassion, care and responsibility.

We are deeply grateful to First Nation leadership, local community members, firefighters, first responders, emergency management teams, pilots, volunteers, host communities and everyone working tirelessly to protect lives, homes, lands and critical infrastructure.

We send strength, safety and comfort to everyone affected, including those awaiting the opportunity to safely return home.
